Replacing a Leaking Hot Water Cylinder

The Problem

The customer contacted us after experiencing a serious issue with their hot water cylinder. It was no longer regulating the water temperature correctly, causing the water to change from scalding hot to completely cold within seconds.

This presented a significant safety concern, particularly because young children were living at the property. The existing cylinder was also leaking from several places, and the household had been left without reliable hot water for several weeks.

Before contacting us, the customer had arranged for four other local engineers to attend, but unfortunately, they had been let down each time.

Our Initial Assessment

We visited the property to assess the cylinder and the surrounding hot water system.

During the initial inspection, we explained that the existing cylinder and its current setup presented a serious safety risk. Due to the multiple leaks and the inability to regulate the hot water temperature, we recommended replacing the cylinder rather than attempting to continue using the existing system.

We discussed the findings clearly with the customer and explained how replacing the cylinder would address both the leaks and the unpredictable water temperatures.

The Work Carried Out

Once the customer accepted the proposed work, we arranged a suitable installation date.

The existing leaking cylinder was removed and replaced with a new hot water cylinder. The associated pipework and components were connected to create a safer and more reliable setup, while working around the property’s existing pool equipment and pipework.

The work was booked in and completed within three days of being accepted, providing a quick turnaround after the customer had already been without dependable hot water for several weeks.

The Result

The replacement removed the leaking and unsafe cylinder from the property and restored a reliable hot water supply for the household.

Most importantly, the customer was no longer relying on a system that could suddenly produce scalding water, helping to make the hot water setup safer for everyone living in the property.
